Hello Taft Families,

Welcome to the 24-25 school year.  I am your new principal,  Dr. Kelly Washington. Over 25 years in education, I have served scholars and their families as a special education teacher, a building principal, executive director of curriculum and instruction, transformation specialist with the Ohio Department of Education and as an assistant superintendent.  These experiences have built me to become the leader I am today as I continue to serve scholars and families at Taft Elementary School.

I am extremely happy to be in the Youngstown City School District and the principal at Taft. I look forward to building relationships and meeting our academic goals.  However, this can not be accomplished without each and every one of you.  It will be an ideal situation for us to work together as we promote family values and demonstrate pride in our district and here at Taft.

I look forward to greeting our scholars on September 4, 2024, visiting classrooms, lunchrooms, on the playgrounds, and ending the day wishing them the best evening ever.  

I believe in you, our scholars and having a successful school year.

It is an honor to be here as your building leader.  Thank you for this opportunity to serve you and your scholars.
