Success After Six

Focus on the WHOLE CHILD and the WHOLE FAMILY

Success After 6 provides wrap-around services to help break down barriers many of the students and their families face on a daily basis.  Our United Way works in partnership with the school to help the students achieve success.  We help the students realize their potential and encourages them to excel in the classroom.  We bring community partners to the table to best serve the children and their families.

Our United Way launched this intiative after holding community conversations throughout the Mahoning Valley.  We heard over and over that we need a safe haven for our children and more resources available to the families.

Our pilot program started at the Youngstown Community School for the 2015/2016 school year.  We expanded Success After 6 to Taft Elementary School in the Youngstown City School District for the 2016/2017 school year.

Success After 6 will serve thousands of students and their families at each school through various enrichment programs, tutoring, health screenings, food pantries, clothing drives, and our main piece - an after-school program with our Education Partners and Enrichment Parnters:  Mahoning County Educational Service Center, SMARTS - Students Motivated By the Arts, OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science and Technology, Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, Oak Hill Collaborative - Raspberry Pi, Chess is Life, and The Train Station.

Data from the 2016/2017 school year indicates that the students enrolled in the SA6 after-school program are closing the achievement gap.  Our students' progress is independently tracked by Dr. Karen Larwin of Youngstown State University.
