Taft School Parent Involvement Policy


Taft Elementary School will involve parent in regular, two-way meaningful communication addressing student achievement and ensuring:

  • That parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning

  • That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education

  • That parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.

In compliance with Section 1118 (a) (2), of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), Taft Elementary School agrees to implement required statutory  requirements to:


  1. Involve parents in the joint planning and development of the district’s Title I plan through representation on the district ESEA team and participation in fall and spring ESEA meetings.

  2. Involve parent in an Annual Local Review of the Title I Program and use the results of the Annual Review to address any identified barriers to parental participation.  The Annual Review will be conducted each spring and will include an analysis of state and local assessment data, a review of grade level needs and services provided

  3. Provide coordination, technical assistance and other support necessary to assist in planning and implementing effective parent involvement activities to improve student achievement and social performance.

  4. Build the school and the parents’ capacity for strong parental involvement

  5. Meet annually with parents to evaluate the content and effectiveness of the parent involvement policy in improving the academic quality of the school.

  6. Provide opportunities for the participation of parents with Limited English proficiency and parents with disabilities, including providing support for the dissemination/translation of information and school reports.

  7. Meet with parents at flexible times that ensures their attendance at meetings.

  8. Include review and explanation of curriculum, assessments and proficiency levels that are expected for students at Taft.

  9. Provide an open door policy that enables parents to take an active part in the decision making process

  10. Provide parents with information concerning their child’s academic performance.

  11. Provide parents with the info needed to ensure that their students are fulfilling the objectives of Taft including academic performance, attendance and behavior

  12. Provide timely responses to parent questions and concerns.

  13. Periodically evaluate the parent Involvement Policy

  14. Assist parents of students served under Title I in understanding the State’s academic content and assessment standards and in understanding how to monitor the student’s progress and how to work with school staff to improve their students’ achievement.

  15. The Taft Elementary School  is currently working on establishing a P.T.O. that will work to engage parents,  teachers and administration. The P.T.O. will work together with the staff and parents to help organize events,  fundraisers and other opportunities to benefit the student and increase parental involvement.
